Pharmacists asked to take part in epilepsy campaign

Independent pharmacists across Yorkshire and Lancashire are being asked to take part in a campaign to help patients with epilepsy take control of their treatment.

Epilepsy Action has relaunched its “Take control” campaign to focus in particular on community pharmacies. The campaign was initially launched last year and some pharmacies displayed the campaign material. Following positive feedback, pharmacists are being actively recruited to take part in this year’s campaign.

Patients will be able to collect an “action card” from participating pharmacies that contains a seizure diary to help them record their symptoms.

This can then be used to establish whether patients are on the best treatment, and the pharmacist can talk them through treatment options and side effects or advise them to see their doctor as appropriate.

A spokesman for Epilepsy Action said that pharmacists in other regions will be approached to take part in the campaign in due course, but if any pharmacists would like to be involved now they can contact Ian Turnpenny on 0113 210 8800.
