Byelaws clarified on locum expenses for Council members

On August 17 the Privy Council approved an amendment to the Society's Byelaws to clarify the circumstances in which locum expenses can be paid when Council members are away from their place of work on Council business (PJ, 28 September 2002, p465).

The amendment makes it clear that a Council member who runs a pharmacy can claim locum expenses of up to £200 a day whether he or she owns the business as an individual or through a private limited liability company.

The Society’s Council made its decision to seek the Byelaw amendment three years ago (PJ, 17 August September 2002, p227). A proposed Byelaw amendment was gazetted the following month (PJ, 28 September 2002, p466) for the statutory 60-day consultation.
