New arrangements for stoma appliance supply

Community pharmacists and appliance contractors in Scotland who wish to supply stoma appliances after April 2006 will shortly be asked to respond to a procurement process.

This week, the Scottish Executive Health Department gave provisional details of a new service for the supply of stoma appliances in the community. It will lie outside the new pharmacy contract.

The SEHD states that everyone supplying appliances under the new arrangements will be remunerated and reimbursed on the same basis, regardless of whether they are a community pharmacist or an appliance supplier.

Patient access to the service will continue to be via a GP10 prescription.
