Society advertises for members for new appointments group
The Royal Pharmaceutical Society is advertising for members for a new Appointments Group that will make appointments to four new regulatory committees (see advertisement, pA24).
The Society is seeking a lay deputy chairman, two pharmacists and a pharmacy
technician to join the group. The group will appoint about 40 members
to serve on the new statutory committees — a Disciplinary Committee,
a Health Committee, an Investigating Committee and a Registration Appeals
Committee.
The new committees will remain in “shadow” form until confirmed
by pharmacy’s Section 60 Order under the Health Act 1999 in 2006.
The Council has already appointed Elizabeth Filkin, who chaired the Society’s
Shipman Inquiry working party, as chairman of the Appointments Group
(PJ, 18 June, p772). She will work alongside Jeanne Thircuir, who has
joined the Society as interim recruitment manager to manage the recruitment,
selection and appointment process. Phillida Entwistle and Ray Jobling,
both lay members of the Society’s Council, will join Ms Filkin
to form a selection panel to appoint the Appointments Group.
The role of the Appointments Group will be:
· To agree a shortlist of potential committee members
· To interview shortlisted candidates
· To appoint new committee members and report appointed members to the
Society’s Council
The role will include two days of briefings and training during November
and 20 of days interviewing, ending in March 2006. Remuneration is £200
a day (review pending) plus expenses.
Application packs can be requested from the Society (e-mail ftprecruitment@rpsgb.org;
tel 020 7572 2626). Applicants must complete an application form, write
a statement outlining how they meet the requirements and send them with
a CV to Ms Thircuir. The closing date is 23 September 2005 and interviews
will be held in late October.
