Medicines management is theme for BPC students day

Medicines management is to be the theme for this year's special undergraduate programme at the British Pharmaceutical Conference, which takes place in Manchester later this month.

A day rate of £5 (plus VAT) is available for pharmacy students and preregistration trainees attending the conference on Wednesday 28 September. Student places are limited and are available on a first come, first served basis. The offer has been made possible through the support of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and the sponsorship of Merck Sharp & Dohme and Pfizer.

The special undergraduate programme will take place on the Wednesday afternoon. The theme will be “Medicines management: pharmacy’s future?” The programme will include presentations on medicines management as seen by practitioners and by the pharmaceutical industry. There will also be a debate on whether medicines management will be the pharmacist’s role in the future. During the morning, students will be able to attend any conference science and practice sessions and tour the exhibition.

Hemant Patel, President of the Society and chairman of the Conference Committee, said: “BPC is the UK’s foremost event for pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists and it is important that the pharmacists and scientists of the future are also encouraged to attend the event. The £5 offer was successfully launched at BPC 2004 and I am personally delighted that we are able to repeat this again for 2005 and continue to invest in our young people.”

Gautam Paul, president of the British Pharmaceutical Students’ Association, said: “The BPSA is pleased to be supporting this initiative again. It offers pharmacy students a unique opportunity to experience BPC first hand. Over 130 students took advantage of the offer in 2004 and I am hoping to further that success this year.”
