Wide variations in practice-based commissioning

There are wide variations in the progress primary care trusts are making towards implementing practice-based commissioning.

Health Direction, a health care business intelligence company, says that 13 per cent of PCTs are still setting up meetings to discuss the subject. However, 37 per cent of PCTs have established a practice-based commissioning steering committee and 33 per cent have either identified practices interested in pilots or are doing some work on practice-based commissioning.
