Vitamin E raises mouse lifespan

High doses of vitamin E have been shown to improve the lifespan of mice. Mice receiving 5g alpha-tocopherol acetate per kg of food showed a 40 per cent increase in median lifespan, better neurological performance and reduced loss of mitochondrial function with age compared with control mice. The effects may be mediated by the antioxidant properties of a-tocopherol. The paper appeared online in the American Journal of Physiology-Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology.
