BPC will have a busy social programme …

Delegates attending the 2005 British Pharmaceutical Conference can look forward to a busy social programme, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society says. It promises “plenty of opportunities for networking and meeting friends, colleagues and fellow pharmacy professionals”.

Over 700 delegates have already booked for BPC 2005, which takes place at the Manchester International Convention Centre from Monday 26 September to Wednesday 28 September. The evening social programme includes a welcome reception, a dinner and a Cantonese evening.

The welcome reception takes place at the MICC on Sunday 25 September and is free to conference delegates. The conference dinner on Monday 26 September is at the Midland Hotel. Tickets cost £50 plus VAT. Richard Smith, former editor of the BMJ and now chief executive officer of United Healthcare Europe, will be guest speaker, and the dinner will be followed by music and dancing to the band Kissing Fish. The Cantonese evening will be in Manchester’s China Town at the 250-seat Yang Sing restaurant, which claims to be Europes leading Cantonese restaurant. Tickets cost £25 plus VAT, which includes one drink.

In addition, a conference club, including a late bar, will be open on all three evenings at the city centre Beluga Bar, five minutes walk from the MICC.

The Society’s President, Hemant Patel, who is chairman of the BPC 2005 Conference Committee, says: “The social element of BPC is an important part of the conference experience and the variety and quality offered this year offers something for all tastes and budgets. I am excited by the programme and I look forward to welcoming you.”

Further information about the conference is available from the BPC 2005 website or from Angela Lyons at Health Links (tel 0121 248 3399; e-mail alyons@health-links.fsnet.co.uk). Bookings can be made through the website.

… and an NAWP fringe session will pilot a CPPE workshop on mental health

Members of the National Association of Women Pharmacists are being invited to take part in a British Pharmaceutical Conference fringe session at which they will pilot a Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education workshop on medicines management for mental health problems, including dementia.

The NAWP event is scheduled to take place from 12.30 to 4pm on Sunday 25 September — the day before the official start of the conference. The workshop is open to all NAWP members, whether or not they have registered for the conference.

The workshop is free and lunch will be provided, but places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Those wishing to take part are asked to contact the CPPE (tel 0161 778 4000), giving their names and addresses (for receipt of preparatory materials) and an indication of whether they will require lunch.
