Cylinder shortage concerns prompt Drug Tariff changes

In response to concerns about cylinder shortages, the Department of Health has made a number of changes to the domiciliary oxygen therapy service section (part X) of the October Drug Tariff.

In addition to the introduction of a new 2,122L cylinder (PJ, 17 September, p327), the recommended threshold for moving patients from cylinders to concentrators has been lowered from eight to two hours’ use a day and new guidance has been issued on the number of cylinders that should be prescribed at any one time.

Further information is available on the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee website (www.psnc.org.uk) and via PJ Online (www.pjonline.com/links/pj).
