Plastic device aids popping from blister packs

A device that helps people with dexterity problems or visual impairment to dispense tablets from foil blister packs has been developed by Hugo Glover, a student at the Royal College of Art.

The plastic disc, known as Poppa, has been prototyped and piloted in the NHS. Its operation is simple. A blister pack is placed over the Poppa and pressed down with finger or thumb. The dispensed tablet can then be tipped into the palm of the hand.
The design won a “highly commended” award in both the Helen Hamlyn Research Centre’s “Design for our future selves” competition and in the British Invention of the Year Awards 2002.

Poppa retails at about £1 each and can be purchased direct from the manufacturer, Moss Products (telephone 01582 873366).
