College of Pharmacy Practice reveals accreditation scheme

The College of Pharmacy Practice has revised its accreditation scheme to take into account mandatory continuing professional development.

There will be three elements to the new scheme: self review by the provider against criteria set by the college, peer review by a member of the college’s accreditation team and a final decision by the college to accredit, accredit with conditions or not to accredit.

Speaking at the launch of the scheme at BPC, Hemant Patel, President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, said: “The college has a long record of excellence in the accreditation of training events and published material. I am delighted that the new scheme will accredit events against the Society’s CPD competencies and the competencies of the college faculties.”

Charles Butler, chairman of the college governors, added: “It has been an evolutionary process in which we have moved away from counting hours of continuing education to using a range of competencies.”
