Medicines management awards launched to recognise and promote best practice

Prescribing and medicines management have been given a boost with the announcement at the British Pharmaceutical Conference of new awards by a consortium of six pharmacy bodies, together with the Association of Nurse Prescribers. The awards, sponsored by Servier Laboratories, are designed to identify, recognise and promote “best practice” in prescribing and medicines management.
The major award — the practice research award — is intended to be used to develop a research project or to implement it on a wider scale, and is worth £10,000. Applications must be made within the subject areas of osteoporosis care, coronary heart disease care or diabetes care. The closing date for applications is 6 January 2006.

Five best practice awards will be given to entries that demonstrate how working practices have been improved and illustrate how this is making a difference to the provision of pharmacy or nursing services, particularly if they show how patients and staff have benefited. Two of these awards will be reserved for members of the UK Clinical Pharmacy Association and Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists and one for members of the Association of Nurse Prescribers. The deadline for these awards is 1 July 2006.

There will also be two awards worth £250 for the best oral presentation and the best poster at the next UK Medicines Information conference.
