Chronic constipation management

From Mr A. F. Huntley, MRPharmS

The last sentence of the guideline for chronic constipation management (PJ, 8 October, p434) reads “there are insufficient data regarding alternative treatments”.

I have news for these eminent researchers, who draw from a “systematic review of randomised controlled trials”. Have they never heard of the inexpensive, safe, effective glycerol suppositories that have been in use for the past century? Impacted faeces are gently metamorphosed to the consistency of blancmange within 20 minutes or less of insertion?
