Co-op group pharmacies linked up to NPSA reporting system

All 360 UK pharmacies within Co-operative Group Pharmacy can now send details of any safety incidents, such as dispensing errors, via a web-based system developed by the company direct to the National Reporting and Learning System at the National Patient Safety Agency.

Head of pharmacy Liz Colling said: “Patient safety is of paramount importance to us, and we are keen to do anything we can to assist the NHS in reaching its safety targets. Dispensing errors happen very rarely, but when they do it is important that everyone can learn from them.”

The NPSA welcomed the company’s commitment to patient safety and the speed with which it has linked up to the NRLS. The NPSA’s head of safety solution Wendy Harris said: “We are delighted Co-operative Group Pharmacy has responded so quickly to sign up to our reporting system.

“We will be able to build a clearer picture of the incidents of real concern to pharmacists and work to help find solutions to prevent them in future.”

Reporting tool In collaboration with the NPSA, the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee has produced a form that community pharmacies can use to report safety incidents. It is available from the PSNC website
