Pass rate of 82 per cent in Society's autumn registration examination
exceeds 2004 rate
The pass rate in the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's autumn registration examination this year is 82.1 per cent, compared with 91.9 per cent in the main summer examination (PJ, 23 July, p122). Last year’s
figures were 91.3 per cent in the summer and 71.4 per cent in the autumn.
The number of autumn candidates this year was 223, of whom 183 were successful.
In the separate section of calculation questions, which candidates have
to pass in addition to passing the examination as a whole, 199 candidates
(89.2 per cent) of the candidates were successful.
The mean percentage scores for the different components of the examination
were as follows: overall 77.4 (range 51–94); closed book 79.8 (range
62–97); open book 74.7 (range 35–94); calculations 78.2 (range
40–100).
The mean percentage scores for the individual syllabus sections were
as follows: Section 1 (professional and legal practice) —part I
(professional practice of a pharmacy) 72, part II (legal aspects of providing
a pharmaceutical service) 76; section 2 (clinical and pharmaceutical
practice) — part I (clinical practice) 79, part II (pharmaceutical
aspects of practice) 60; section 3 (systems and procedures) 81.
Of this year’s 223 candidates, 187 were UK graduates or sandwich
course students, of whom 153 (81.8 per cent) passed and 34 (18.2 per
cent) failed. The remaining 36 candidates were pharmacists from overseas
seeking to register through the adjudicating route. Of these, 30 (83.3
per cent) passed and six (16.7 per cent) failed.
For 17 of the 40 candidates who failed, this examination was their first
attempt. For 21 of these candidates it was the second attempt, and for
two it was their third and final attempt.
The next sitting of the examination takes place on Friday 30 June 2006.
