The Society

Retention fees

From Mr C. J. Palin, MRPharmS

Now that the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s Council has been “forced to defer” its decision on the “special 50-year retention fee” (PJ, 22 October, p529), perhaps it may like to reconsider the fees imposed for non-practising retired members with fewer than 50 years on the Register?

I note that in the above item the Privy Council was quoted as saying that a reduced fee “could discriminate against certain groups”. I would contend that the inflation busting increase of 24 per cent for “non-practising” members is rather discriminatory, compared with the increases for other categories.

Then again, maybe it is a bit much to expect the Society to be any more bothered about its retired members or “elder statesmen” than any other large company or organisation.

Christopher Palin
Torquay, Devon
