SPF members to be balloted on organisation merger
Members of the Scottish Pharmaceutical Federation are to be balloted on the proposed
merger of the SPF with the Scottish Pharmaceutical General Council (PJ, 29 October, p540).
There will also be a special meeting to consider the matter in Glasgow
on 15 December.
Speaking after this week’s SPF executive committee meeting, James
Semple, SPF chairman, said: “We accepted some time ago that with
the changes in community pharmacy in post-devolution Scotland, a single
body to represent Scottish community pharmacy contractors was the only
way forward. We will shortly be having a postal ballot of our members
with a recommendation to wind up the SPF and transfer its residual funds
to the SPGC.”
Two reasons he cited for the merger are the importance of communication
between pharmacists in Scotland and the Scottish Executive, and a decreasing
pool of individuals able to sit on national committees. |
