Wider range of drugs proposed for podiatrists

Plans to give podiatrists access to a greater range of medicines to treat their patients have been put forward by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.

If the plans are accepted, podiatrists will be able to administer methylprednisolone acetate, levobupivacaine hydrochloride, ropivacaine hydrochloride and adrenaline. They will also be allowed to sell or supply silver sulfadiazine, amoxicillin, erythromycin, flucloxacillin and products containing tioconazole 28 per cent, terbinafine 1 per cent and clotrimazole 1 per cent. Consultation on the proposal (MLX 331) runs until 20 January 2006.
