Meeting sought with Scottish minister over Kerr report on NHS

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society's Scottish Executive is to seek a meeting with the Scottish health minister, Andy Kerr, to discuss “Delivering for health” (PJ, 5 November, p564), the Scottish Executive Health Department's response to David Kerr's report “Building a health service fit for the future” (PJ, 4 June, p667).

The Society’s executive made its decision at a meeting on 9 November. The Society is keen to support the implementation of the report.

Ethnic minorities At its meeting on 9 November, the executive also agreed to ask the Society’s Scottish branches to raise awareness of the issues around the provision of pharmaceutical care services for ethnic minorities. It did so after a presentation on the topic from Annamarie McGregor, a member of the executive and director of the SEHD pharmaceutical care model schemes.

Pharmacy strategy The executive agreed to bring together strategy papers from different areas to produce a draft strategy for all of pharmacy. It did so after executive member Christine Gilmour had presented a paper of the hospital pharmacy strategy prepared by the Association of Scottish Trust Chief Pharmacists acute group.

National boards The executive agreed to offer assistance on the creation of the Society’s new national board for England. It also considered ways in which the Scottish board will discharge its functions and the supporting structures it will require.
