Society survey will examine support structures for the profession
The Royal Pharmaceutical Society is undertaking a scoping survey as part of an examination of professional support and development mechanisms across the profession.
A working group has been set up to review the supporting structures and
the survey will inform the group’s work by mapping the current
structures, formal and informal, within pharmacy across England, Scotland
and Wales.
The review aims to recognise what sort of support groups exist, and why,
to identify any gaps that need addressing and to examine whether there
is merit in seeking to influence future development in the interests
of the profession as a whole
Council member Bob Michell, who chairs the working group, said: “We
hope many members of the profession will look up the survey on the Society’s
website. The information will help individuals, organisations and the
Society itself to interact as effectively as possible in promoting the
benefits of pharmacy.”
Eileen Neilson, head of policy development at the Society, added: “The
Society would like to hear about small, informal groups as well as the
large national organisations for pharmacy. The process of mapping the
groups will be the first step in understanding how well the leadership
and development needs of the profession are being met.”
Data will be collected until the end of 2005 and will include interviews
with respondents.
The working group will review progress and present its findings to the
Society’s Council in the first quarter of 2006.
The survey can be accessed through the policy
section of the Society’s
website. Further information is available from
