Drug interactions

Helpful resource for drug-herbal interactions

From Miss R. Sivapathasundram

I am writing in response to Kazeem Olalekan (PJ, 1 October, p408 PDF (160K)), who wrote about the interaction between warfarin and chondroitin.

I am a British graduate currently in the process of obtaining my licence to practise in Canada. A good (North American) reference textbook that describes drug-herbal interactions and drug-food interactions in detail is the ‘Natural medicines comprehensive database’, edited by Jeff M. Jellin, Philip Gregory, Forrest Batz, Kathy Hitchins, et al.

It is a good idea for pharmacists to have a quick look at American reference textbooks as some of them are comprehensive and cover a lot of information of tremendous benefit to us all.
