Vaccine handling fee relaxed

In Scotland, the rules for payment of the risk minimisation fee for handling influenza vaccines were relaxed this week. The 55p fee was to be payable to community pharmacists who met certain conditions, including dividing their vaccine order between three suppliers and placing orders by 20 May (PJ, 30 April, p510).

However, an NHS circular states that because the vaccination programme was later expanded, the original deadline has become invalid. So, this condition has been withdrawn. Furthermore, health boards can decide to pay the fee on extra orders placed after 20 May if it was impossible for pharmacists to divide the order between suppliers.
