Contract-based business development wins award

Developing their pharmacy business around the new pharmacy contract and engagement with patients and the local primary care trust has led to Lila and Deepak Thakerar being named as overall winners of the UniChem Great Business Awards for 2005.

Presenting the award, John D’Arcy, chief executive of the National Pharmacy Association, said that the Thakerar’s Shaftesbury Pharmacy in Harrow, Middlesex, epitomised modern pharmacy practice. Features that impressed the judges included well motivated and well trained staff, as well as the implementation of successful smoking cessation, needle and syringe exchange and methadone consumption services.

Other winners included Martyn and Jackie Lewis, of Lewis Pharmacy, Exmouth, Matthew Price, of Matthew Price Pharmacies, Merthyr Tydfil, and Graham Phillips, of Manor Pharmacy, Hertfordshire.
