Careers website “a hit”

A careers website set up by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society has proved a hit, the Society says. Since its launch in the summer the website has received more than 2,000 new visits each month.

Aimed at teenagers and young adults, the website (www.pharmacycareers.org.uk) offers practical information about career opportunities and what the study of pharmacy involves. It includes links to the website of the 22 UK schools of pharmacy and gives quotes from current pharmacy students.

The website is part of a new suite of careers material launched by the Society during 2005, which includes a leaflet, “Your future in pharmacy”, and a poster. A pharmacy careers presentation for use by branches is planned for early in the new year.

The Society’s Director of Public Affairs and Communications, Beverley Parkin, said: “We need to encourage young people with the right attitude as well as the right aptitude into the profession. We are supporting the branches in helping roll out this work through their local careers officer roles. The response to our new careers work has been very encouraging”.
