Controlled drugs

Amending printed prescriptions

From Miss P. R. Sejpal, MRPharmS

Roger Hancocks asked about amendments to computer-generated prescriptions for Controlled Drugs (PJ, 3 December, p685).The Home Office has stated that, in emergency situations, it would be acceptable for another doctor or a health professional who is allowed to prescribe under the legislative rules to amend a CD prescription provided that he or she signs and dates it. The Home Office does not believe that it is acceptable for such changes to be made by third persons, eg, receptionists, and for a doctor then to sign the prescription. The Society is to issue further guidance.
