Review limit raised to 250
The maximum number of medicines use reviews that can be carried out during the first year of the new community pharmacy contract has been increased
from 200 to 250, the Department of Health has confirmed.
The DoH says that the new limit only applies to pharmacies in England
that begin providing MURs before 1 January 2006.
Commenting on the announcement, Sue Sharpe, chief executive of the Pharmaceutical
Services Negotiating Committee, said: “We would have liked a higher
limit than this to encourage those pharmacists who have been quick to
take up this new service.”
She adds that, to date, 4,700 pharmacists are accredited to provide the
service, and at the end of October, more than 20,000 MURs had been carried
out. “They will continue to increase and we will shortly be discussing
with the Department of Health the numbers of reviews that can be undertaken
in 2006–07.” |
