BPC science award

The Council has agreed to amend the criteria for eligibility for the annual British Pharmaceutical Conference science award. Currently, applications are considered from scientists under the age of 35 with a proven record of research in a pharmaceutical or allied discipline.

At the December Council meeting, the Council heard that the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences was concerned that the age limit could be seen as discriminatory in that it disadvantaged scientists who had taken a career break. The Council therefore agreed that candidates for the award “should have 10 years or less, normally at the post-doctoral level”. Any breaks in a candidate’s career should be documented.
