Society names members of appointments group

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society has announced the members of the appointments group that will appoint about 60 members to the four new statutory committees — a Disciplinary Committee, a Health Committee, an Investigating Committee and a Registration Appeals Committee.

The applications — which had been invited through press advertising — were considered by a selection panel comprising Elizabeth Filkin, who has already been appointed as independent chairman of the appointments group, and lay Council members Ray Jobling and Dr Phillida Entwistle.

The group has appointed as deputy chairman Sue Young, of Richmond, North Yorkshire. Mrs Young, an independent management consultant, is chairman of Hambleton and Richmondshire Primary Care Trust and is on the central list of independent assessors of the Commissioner for Public Appointments.

The two pharmacist positions have been filled by Elizabeth Kay, of Leeds, and Raj Parekh, of North London. Professor Kay is chief pharmacist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Mr Parekh is chief pharmacist at Camden and Islington Mental Health and Social Care Trust.

The pharmacy technician position has been filled by Joanne Taylor, of Merseyside. Mrs Taylor works at Jamiesons Pharmacy, Whetstone Lane Medical Centre, Birkenhead.

Three reserve members have also been appointed. The reserve deputy chairman is Moi Ali, a communications consultant, trainer and author from West Calder, West Lothian. The reserve pharmacist is Dot Anderson, an independent consultant in health and pharmacy in Edinburgh, and the reserve pharmacy technician is Gaynor Rowley, chief pharmacy technician (dispensary services) at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.
