Computer printed prescriptions possible

Pharmacists who are supplementary prescribers in GP practices are now able to computer print their prescriptions via a clinical information system.

Until now, pharmacist supplementary prescribers have had to write prescriptions by hand. Sandra Prater, a clinical pharmacist at Monkfield Medical Practice in Cambridge, printed her first prescription using Vision 3 (In Practice Systems Ltd) clinical information system earlier this month.“Not being able to computer print prescriptions was always a frustration for me — while I could prescribe legally, the technical side didn’t keep up,” she told The Journal.

Ms Prater believes that printing prescriptions will not only make consultations more efficient and effective, it will improve clinical governance around prescribing by ensuring legible prescriptions and complete records.
