Patients get to choose

NHS patients in England are now able to choose any one of four places they are offered when referred by GPs for specialist treatment.

The NHS improvement plan (PDF 470K) sets a target of 2008 for patients to be able to choose from any provider that meets NHS standards at NHS costs (PJ, 3 July 2004, p5).
