Fraudulent pharmacist must repay over £200,000
Defrauding the NHS has resulted in the confiscation of over £200,000 from a Yorkshire pharmacist.
Mohammed Shabir, of Wigton Lane, Leeds, was jailed last year for nine
months after being convicted
of defrauding the NHS of £464 by retaining
prescription charges collected from patients and making false exemption
claims on their behalf (PJ, 20 August 2005, p216).
Now, the Assets Recovery Agency and the National Health Service Counter
Fraud Service have obtained a confiscation order for £212,464.17
plus £2,600 costs. Mr Shabir must pay the money within four months
or face a further two years in jail. |
