Society makes new appointment to “key post” of head of practice

Robert Clayton: exciting time to be involved in pharmacy’s
development |
A new head of practice has been appointed within the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's Practice and Quality Improvement Directorate. Robert Clayton also becomes secretary to the Society's Practice Committee and to various other working groups as part of his role.
For the past 18 months Mr Clayton has been the Society’s lead for
long-term conditions and public health within the same directorate.
Mr Clayton’s pharmacy career has included working at the Department
of Health in the pharmaceutical and technology branch, and then as an
area and district pharmaceutical officer. He has been a prescribing adviser
for several regional health authorities and most recently was a community
pharmacy manager.
Welcoming the appointment, the Society’s Director of Practice and
Quality Improvement, David Pruce, said: “This is a key post, which
has an important co-ordinating role and a tremendous impact on the long-term
strategy of the profession. I am extremely pleased to have Robert in
this role as he has proved himself to have the right combination of expertise
and skills to advise and assist in the development of pharmacy practice
in all sectors.”
Commenting on his new role, Mr Clayton said: “During the time I
have been at the Society, the emphasis of the practice agenda has evolved
with important issues like the introduction of the new contract, the
forthcoming implementation of the new national boards and independent
prescribing setting the tone for the future of the profession. It is
an exciting time to be involved in the development of pharmacy and I
am looking forward to getting stuck into the challenge.”
Mr Clayton succeeds Sue Kilby, who was head of practice for two years.
