Upper limit removed from fee for attendance at Council and committee
meetings
An upper limit of £200 on the fee payable for attendance at meetings of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's Council and its committees has been removed from the Society's Bylaws with the approval of the Privy Council.
A proposal
to remove the limit was submitted to the Privy Council after
the Society’s December 2005 Council meeting (PJ, 17 December 2005,
p756). The suggestion that the limit should be removed had come from
Privy Council advisers after an earlier decision by the Council to seek
to raise the limit to £300. The advisers said that the level of
fees should be a matter for the Society’s members and not controlled
by the Privy Council. As now amended, the Byelaws simply refer to Council
members receiving a “reasonable” fee.
The Council has said that it will still consult the membership on proposed
changes to the fee. It will use the 60-day gazetting process, as used
for Byelaw amendments, and will consider all responses before approving
an amended fee.
