Society to submit evidence on workforce

Evidence on the pharmacy workforce is to be submitted by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society to a House of Commons Health Committee inquiry into NHS workforce needs and planning.

Commenting on a call for evidence when the inquiry was announced last week, Rob Darracott, director of corporate and strategic development, said: “We plan to let the committee know how the Society has, over the past couple of years, co-ordinated a project supported by the three Departments of Health in England, Scotland and Wales to examining in detail the pharmacy workforce. The work, which has been undertaken by a team from King’s College London, under Professor David Guest, has included the development of a detailed pharmacy workforce planning model, enabling us to plot the effect of various impacts on supply and demand drivers. We hope to publish the full report shortly.”

Two of the questions the committee wishes to address are whether or not workforce planning has been undertaken in the past and how it should be done in the future.

Written evidence has to be submitted to the committee by 15 March.
