Boots/UniChem merger

Where does this merger leave independent pharmacies?

From Mr D. Corlass, MRPharmS

Pharmacists belonging to independent and small group pharmacies are at yet another crossroads. Will these pharmacists still use the Boots/UniChem colossus as a wholesaler? Is Boots The Chemists going to run the UniChem depots as an independent company? What happens when there is a product shortage? Will the patient say to the independent pharmacist “I will go to Boots as they always seem to have it in stock”? Will independent pharmacists be happy to further Boots’s profits? I wonder what the future offers the independents?
