NHS chief executive to retire

Sir Nigel Crisp |
NHS chief executive Sir Nigel Crisp is to retire at the end of March. He will be replaced by Sir Ian Carruthers as acting NHS chief executive.
Sir Nigel has been NHS chief executive and permanent secretary at the
Department of Health for five years.
He said that the NHS had achieved or exceeded its targets, but acknowledged
that not all had gone well recently, particularly in financial terms.
“
Iam particularly saddened by the difficulties we have had over the past
few months and the financial problems we are grappling with. As chief
executive, I wish to acknowledge my accountability for problems, just
as I may take some credit for achievements,” he said.
Sir Nigel is to be made a life peer. |
