Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education to provide learning resources for technicians

A pharmacy technician learning programme was launched last week by the Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education.

From April, technicians registered in England will have access to over 40 open-learning packs, as well as to some local pharmacist workshops. Some materials have been developed specifically for technicians but others are current pharmacist learning packs deemed suitable for technicians.

Although CPPE activities are funded by the Department of Health, the centre did not receive any extra money to provide for technicians. Dr Cutts said that recent restructuring at the centre has allowed for greater efficiency and budget redesign.

The CPPE also plans to look at modifying its range of resources for pharmacists later this year, with more specialised CPD packages being developed in collaboration with pharmacy specialist groups. According to CPPE director Chris Cutts, future learning packs will be categorised into three levels, ranging from basic to advanced.
