Face masks for flu

A review by the Health Protection Agency found no evidence of benefit for issuing face masks to the public in the event of an influenza pandemic, health minister Rosie Winterton said this week. However, in a Parliamentary written reply she said that the evidence will be regularly reviewed.

The Department of Health has recommended the use of face masks for health care professionals who would be working closely with infected patients.
