Campaign continues on sexual health advice from pharmacies
A leaflet designed to encourage people to visit local pharmacies for sexual health advice has been so successful that the Royal Pharmaceutical Society is to reprint it.
More than 100,000 copies of the “Ask about sexual health” leaflet
were distributed to community pharmacies and primary care organisations
last November as part of a Society campaign to coincide with Ask
About Medicines Week (PJ, 3 December, 2005, p705). The Society’s aim
was to drive home the message that community pharmacists are ideally
placed to provide expert help and advice on all aspects of sexual health.
The Society has now printed another run of the leaflets to satisfy the
continued demand.
Sid Dajani, a member of the Society’s Council and Council sponsor
for Ask About Medicines Week, said: “Demand for this leaflet has
been high and reflects the growing concern about sexual health. Britain’s
teenage pregnancy rates remain the highest in Europe and reported cases
of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections are on the rise. With
about 1.8 million health related visits to community pharmacies daily,
pharmacists are ideally placed to encourage safe sex to help reduce these
rising levels, as well as to advise on preventing infections and where
to get treatment.”
Copies of the “Ask about sexual health” leaflet are available
from the Society’s public relations unit (tel 020 7572 2335; e-mail
pr@rpsgb.org). They are free to pharmacists and other health professionals
but a postage and packaging charge of £6 applies to all orders.
An order form can be downloaded from the medicines
section of the Society’s
website, where the leaflet can also be viewed.
The leaflet is available in both English and Welsh language versions.
