North East London LPCClarity of the message is vitalFrom Mr A. Burr, MRPharmS I find it extraordinary that following the Bates report into the actions of North East London Local Pharmaceutical Committee (PJ, 24 September 2005, pp364–5) and despite numerous requests, the LPC has still not updated information on its website. Since the investigation there have been some significant developments, namely, the decision by pharmacists in the area of City and Hackney Primary Care Trust to form a new local pharmaceutical committee and the failure of the North East London LPC and the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee to resolve the outstanding issues. One accepts that we still await the report of the NHS counter fraud and security management service (CFSMS) but, in the meantime, surely the profession deserves to be kept informed. The fact that the secretary of the North East London LPC is also the President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society has caused concern among the membership. He has refused to stand aside as President while these investigations are going on. At a time when Foster will be considering whether the Society needs to separate its professional and regulatory roles, the President’s decision may have added weight to the arguments for separation. With the stakes for the profession so high, clarity of the message is vital. Andrew Burr
