Trial of out-of-hours service from CPD helpdesk ends soon

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society is calling on pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to make use of the online continuing professional development (CPD) technical helpdesk's extended opening hours before the three-month trial ends on Sunday 23 April.

The normal opening hours for the helpdesk are from 9.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. But since January it has also been open from 8pm to 9pm on weekday evenings and from 2pm to 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays as part of a trial to see if it helps pharmacists to use the online resources more effectively. The evening and weekend support will cease on 23 April while the trial is evaluated and a decision is made on the value of the out-of-hours service.

The Society’s CPD manager, Fred Ayling, says: “Once the trial has finished we will assess the usefulness of the service and determine whether it is worth implementing the extended hours long term. In the meantime, I would urge all pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who record their CPD in the evenings and at weekends to make use of the service.”

The Society says that pharmacists and registered pharmacy technicians can electronically update their CPD records at www.uptodate.org.uk and call the helpdesk on 01225 383663.
