National IT programme is on budget but concerns raised

The National Programme for IT is on budget and is fully funded, according to NHS Connecting for Health. The Health Service Journal reported last month, however, that funding for national rollout of the IT programme will be cut because the Department of Health has over-committed its £12bn central budget. The central budget funds a number of activities, including the modernisation agenda for the NHS.

The technical feasibility of the NPfIT is also questioned this week in an open letter to the House of Commons Health Committee. The letter is signed by 23 of the UK’s top academics in computer-related sciences and calls for an independent audit of the programme.
