584 pharmacists struck off for non-payment of retention fee
The Council of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society has instructed the Registrar to remove the names of 584 pharmacists from the Register of Pharmaceutical Chemists and seven pharmacies from the Register of Premises for failing to pay their retention fees for 2006 (see Official
Notice, p461).
At the April Council
meeting, the Council heard that, until shortly before
the meeting, payments had been received from 37,078 members in the practising
category, 4,635 in the non-practising category and 2,791 in the category
of those living overseas and not practising in Britain. The total, 44,504,
represented more than 97 per cent of those who had been registered in
2005. A further 1,284 members had chosen to retire from the Register,
the vast majority being over the normal retirement age.
The total number of premises retention fees paid had been 12,272, representing
more than 99 per cent of premises registered.
The Council was reminded that the fees had been due on 1 January. At
the end of that month, statutory demands had been sent out to those who
had not paid. The statutory demand notice period had expired on 3 April.
The Council was also advised that pharmacy technicians’ retention
fees had been paid by 2,681 practising technicians and 15 non-practising
technicians. Ten technicians have had their names erased for non-payment
of fees under a protocol that does not require a Council decision.
