Revised protocol for registration of technicians
The Council of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, at the April
Council meeting, approved a revised protocol for the voluntary register of pharmacy technicians.
The revised protocol is intended to be more robust than its predecessor,
particularly in regard to the registration of those with overseas qualifications
and those with qualifications gained in the EU. The revision is expected
to reduce significantly the risk of appeals against registration decisions
and the risk of legal challenge.
The new protocol does not affect technicians whose applications to join
the register were made before the Council meeting and it will remain
in force only until mandatory registration comes into effect with the
enforcement of the Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians Order under Section
60 of the Health Act 1999.
