Section 60 Order

Reject the “attitudes and behaviour” suggestion

From Mr J. P. Smith, MRPharmS

I have always suspected that the Government, behind closed doors of course, has been jumping for joy over Shipman. It has used this isolated incident, alongside Bristol, to advance by several years its agenda to subjugate the medical professions. If any proof was needed of how pernicious its intentions are then the “attitude and behaviour” suggestion (“Section 60 Order — what’s it all about?”, pull-out section in PJ, 1 April PDF (70K)) should be ringing alarm bells. Who is to decide what is, or is not, an unacceptable attitude?

I, for instance, think that Lambeth is mostly useless, does nothing much for me as a pharmacist, and will eventually be split into regulatory and professional sections. Moreover I resent the possibility that pharmacists’ hard earned cash may end up, by default, supporting a Government department.

The question is, will this “attitude” of holding authority in low regard render me liable to an appearance before some kind of star chamber and subsequent removal from the Register. We should reject this stupid proposal, which, in my view, has probably been inserted to put the profession on the back foot so that some other aspect can be slipped through.

J. Paul Smith
