MHRA and police act on illegal internet medicines trading

Investigations into illegal internet trading in medicines came to a head last week with co-ordinated Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency and police raids in different parts of England.

The raids were at private and business addresses in: Abberton and Pershore, Worcestershire; Bedford; Eastbourne, Hailsham and Newhaven, East Sussex; Hayes, West Drayton and Yeading, Middlesex; Peterborough; Reading; and Wigan. They were part of an operation against 27 internet sites offering unlicensed medicines to treat obesity, impotence and herpes, among other ailments.

Unlicensed medicines, computers, documents and large amounts of cash were seized in the raids on 26 and 28 April.
