New contract vote in Scotland this month

Community pharmacists in Scotland have until the end of this month to accept or reject the proposed financial deal that underpins their new contract.

Ballot papers were sent to contractors this week. They ask for a “yes” or “no” response to the following question: “Do you support the proposed financial framework for the new Scottish pharmaceutical care services contract?”

Votes must be received by Electoral Reform Services, which is running the ballot, by noon on Tuesday 30 May. The result is expected to be announced the following day.

Frank Owens, chairman of the Scottish Pharmaceutical General Council, said: “We believe this is a fair deal for contractors, but it is much more than that: it provides a platform from which community pharmacy in Scotland can be developed in the future. The SPGC is looking for a clear and unquestionable mandate from contractors in all sectors to support the framework agreed so far and to empower the negotiating team to move forward to the next stage of negotiations.”

Any contractor who has not received a ballot paper by this weekend should get in touch with the SPGC.
