Epilepsy Action has launched an awareness campaign called “Take control” in the north east of England.
As part of the campaign patients with epilepsy can visit selected pharmacies
and GP surgeries to pick up a diary in which to record their experiences
of living with epilepsy. The diary covers topics such as seizure patterns,
side effects of antiepilepsy drugs and the condition’s impact on
daily life.
Margaret Jackson, consultant neurologist at the Royal Victoria Infirmary,
Newcastle upon Tyne, said: “There is a severe lack of neurologists
and epilepsy specialists in the UK, which the Government is starting
to recognise. However, in the meantime, a programme to empower people
with epilepsy to work collaboratively with their health care professionals
to review their management of epilepsy can only help.” |
