Pharmacy technicians’ register reaches 3,000
More than 3,000 pharmacy technicians have now voluntarily registered with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
Maureen Wallace, of Gill Chemists in Southall, Middlesex, is the 3,000th
pharmacy technician to join the register.
Ms Wallace, who has been a pharmacy technician for 30 years, said: “I
think registering as a pharmacy technician is a step in the right direction
towards increased recognition for our profession and for the vital work
we do.”
Janet Flint, head of support staff regulation at the Royal Pharmaceutical
Society, said: “We are delighted that over 3,000 pharmacy technicians
have chosen to register with the Society now, rather than waiting until
it is compulsory. Well done to Maureen and to the other thousands of
technicians that have registered and the many more who are intending
to do so.
“The regulation and registration of pharmacy technicians by the
Society has many benefits for the public, patients and, of course, the
profession
itself. The pharmacy technicians’ register defines standards for
the profession, which not only means greater recognition for pharmacy
technicians as a professional group, it also means that patients and
the public can have greater confidence that registered pharmacy technicians
are upholding the high standards that we set.”
For practitioners who wish to apply for pharmacy technician registration,
application packs are available from the Society’s website,
