UKCPA/GHP award winners
This year's United Kingdom Clinical Pharmacy Association and Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists Pfizer patient safety award has been won by Bryony Dean Franklin, principal pharmacist, clinical services, and director of the academic pharmacy unit at Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust, for her evaluation of an internet-based medication safety educational package.
Professor Dean Franklin recorded the number of medicine administration
errors (MAE) made by nurses before and after completing a medication
safety training package. The results showed that, for non-intravenous
drugs, MAE rates were 6.1 per cent pre-education and 4.2 per cent afterwards
(95 per cent confidence interval for the difference -0.2 to -3.6 per
cent).
The Wyeth education and training award went to Sheila Woolfrey, lead
pharmacist, medicine, at Wansbeck General Hospital, Northumbria Healthcare
NHS Trust, for the development of a medicines management course for pharmacy
technicians.
The winner of the IVAX leadership award was Laura O’Loan, assistant
director, London Pharmacy Education and Training, for the development
and implementation of a collegiate model of management.
The awards were presented at the UKCPA and GHP joint conference held
in London last week. |
